Consuming less means "make do and mend". Use what you have. Buy secondhand. Ignore fashion.Think outside the square.
The Crafter's Apron
I work as a volunteer at The Adelaide Remakery a couple of times a week. There's a huge work room with trestle tables and literal stacks of donated fabrics and other materials. I often find myself crossing the workroom for different tasks, only to find I've left essential tools behind at another table. Inspired by a stash of partly re-used jeans, I devised this apron with multiple pockets.

The apron is a donated remnant of printed denim (cotton). I couldn't resist the pockets with zips - two pockets in one, or the ones with the turquoise studs at the top corners. To set these off I added similar glass beads to the other pockets. One of the pockets is divided into three vertical sections for skinny things like scissors and pencils. An old woven fabric tape measure is sewn along the bottom edge. printed on it is a message saying it was a free gift with "Woman's Own".
Zany, I know, but adorable and practical.
BTW if you'd like to donate your pre-loved jeans to The Adelaide Remakery, they get used for all kinds of things including Sashiko, the Japanese art of decorative mending.
Update: The apron has changed my sewing life and is a great conversation starter.
